In the quiet community of Coats Bend, just outside of Gadsden, Alabama, a grim discovery shattered the tranquility of a late summer day. On September 7, 2025, concerned deputies from the Etowah County Sheriff's Office arrived at a residence on Old Highway 411 to conduct a welfare check. Inside the home, they found the bodies of 57-year-old Kelley Davis Thornton, a female, and 71-year-old James Timothy Thornton. Both had been fatally shot.
