On a tragic Wednesday in Seattle, the life of Joe Vito Albanese, a 52-year-old Caucasian male, was cut short. On May 30, 2012, Albanese was at the Cafe Racer Espresso when a gunman opened fire. The vibrant atmosphere of the coffee shop was shattered by an act of violence that would ultimately claim the lives of five people, including Albanese.
The man responsible for the shooting was identified as 40-year-old Ian L. Stawicki.
For reasons that remain unsettled, Stawicki entered the cafe and began shooting, turning a place of community and creativity into a scene of chaos and loss. Albanese, a well-known musician in both the Phoenix and Seattle punk rock scenes, was among those who lost their lives in the senseless attack. Another musician, Drew "Shmootzi The Clod" Keriakedes, was also killed.
