In the autumn of 1991, a chilling series of events unfolded that culminated in the tragic death of Francis 'Frank' Brady, a distillery worker from Bardstown, Kentucky. His story is not one of a quiet passing, but a brutal end at the hands of a dangerous fugitive. The man responsible, Michael Dale St. Clair, was an escaped inmate from Oklahoma, already facing convictions for multiple murders. St.
Clair, along with a fellow escapee, Dennis Gene Reese, embarked on a violent crime spree that tragically intersected with Brady's life.
The fateful encounter occurred in October 1991 at a rest stop on Interstate 65 in Hardin County. Brady was abducted by St. Clair and Reese, who were intent on stealing his truck. From the rest stop, Brady was forcibly taken to an isolated area near Lebanon Junction in Bullitt County. It was in this remote location that his life was cut short. St. Clair shot Brady, leaving him in the secluded woods. His body was discovered on October 8, 1991.
The investigation into Brady's murder quickly led authorities to St. Clair and Reese. Following the murder, the pair set fire to a truck they had stolen earlier and were later spotted in Brady's vehicle. A Kentucky State Trooper attempted to pull them over, leading to a chase during which St. Clair fired at the officer. The fugitives managed to escape initially but were eventually apprehended. Reese was captured in Nevada, and St. Clair was arrested in Oklahoma in December 1991.
The legal proceedings that followed were extensive and complex, spanning several years.
