On January 8, 1987, the body of 28-year-old white female Jeanne Durkin was discovered beneath a fruit stand on Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She had been brutally murdered—stabbed at least 74 times—and was found nude from the waist down, her body positioned face down with her legs splayed. The extreme violence of the attack and the public location of the body shocked the community and drew immediate attention from law enforcement.
