Heidi Balch, a 25-year-old Caucasian woman, was murdered on February 20, 1989, in East Meadow, New York. She was later identified as the first victim of Joel Rifkin, a notorious serial killer. Balch had been working as a sex worker when she encountered Rifkin, who took her to his home before strangling her to death.
