Karen Sirnic, a 47-year-old white woman, was murdered on May 2, 1999, in Weimar, Texas. She was killed alongside her husband, Reverend Norman “Skip” Sirnic, while they slept in the parsonage of the United Church of Christ where they lived. The couple was bludgeoned to death with a sledgehammer that had been stolen from their garage. The brutality of the attack and the lack of immediate suspects shocked the local community.
