On December 4, 2000, Gertie Mae Perkins, a 64-year-old African American woman from Fort Worth, Texas, was reported missing after failing to pick up her grandson from school. Her husband, Willie Perkins, and their children contacted authorities when they couldn't locate her. Upon investigating the Perkins' home, police discovered a small bloodstain on the carpet, a disconnected bedroom telephone cord, and missing bed sheets. These findings raised suspicions of foul play.
