On December 4, 1986, the body of 18-year-old female victim April Barnett, who was white, was discovered near a rest area along Interstate 71 in Ashland County, Ohio. She was a resident of Akron and had reportedly been working in or around the Austintown area, which was known at the time for its large truck stop and transient population.
