Javerian Dontae Stevenson, a 22-year-old African-American male, was fatally shot on the night of April 29, 2014, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The incident occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Tonopah Drive. Stevenson was one of three passengers inside a parked vehicle when the driver exited to check on a tire.
It was at this moment that an unidentified assailant approached the car and opened fire, striking Stevenson through the front passenger window.
Rushed to a nearby hospital, Javerian Stevenson succumbed to his injuries. The shooting, which authorities have described as making Stevenson an "unintended victim" of gun violence, left his family devastated. Remembered as a playful, loving, and kind individual, he was a father of three girls and had a passion for writing rap music. His mother recalled him as a good person who loved his job assisting mentally ill patients and, above all, cherished his family.
In the years following the shooting, the case has remained unsolved, becoming a cold case for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Investigators have indicated they have pieced together many details of the incident but still lack the crucial information needed to identify the shooter, who has only been described as a Black man. No arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. To encourage new leads, Stevenson's family has held remembrance rallies, pleading with the public for any information that might bring them closure and deliver justice for his death.
