On the evening of February 6, 2025, Stephen Wayne Lutz, a 42-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in a parking lot near the intersection of North Hamilton Avenue and West Poplar Street in San Antonio, Texas. Lutz was walking with a friend when two suspects approached him—one on foot and the other on a motorized bike. After a brief exchange of words, both suspects opened fire, striking Lutz multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prior to the shooting, surveillance footage captured the suspect on the motorized bike meeting with an unknown individual at a nearby store. This individual also interacted with a vehicle at a nearby business. San Antonio Crime Stoppers released photos of these persons of interest, believing they may have information about the suspect's identity. As of now, both suspects remain at large.
Stephen Lutz was born on January 22, 1983, in San Antonio. He was known for his artistic talents, particularly in drawing and tattooing, and held a Commercial Driver's License. Lutz was a beloved member of his community, remembered for his kindness and generosity. He is survived by his parents, siblings, children, and extended family.
Authorities continue to investigate the case and urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP. A reward of up to $5,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest.
