21-year-old Amari Jeray Maxwell, a young Black man from Newport News, Virginia, tragically lost his life on December 17, 2024, following a shooting incident on Traverse Road. Newport News Police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 3:31 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Maxwell suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
