In the late hours of a Monday night in Newport News, Virginia, the life of 16-year-old Ricky LaTwan Platt was tragically cut short. On October 2, 2012, police responded to a call of shots fired in the Heritage Trace Apartments complex, located in the Denbigh area of the city. Upon their arrival just after midnight, they discovered the male teenager in the parking lot, lying next to a dumpster a short distance from the apartment where he lived.
