Johnny Johnson, a 64-year-old man, was found fatally shot in the neck inside a vehicle in San Antonio, Texas, on March 4, 2025. Authorities responded to reports of a shooting in the 6800 block of Pecan Valley Drive, where they discovered Johnson in the backseat of a car with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a homicide.
According to an arrest affidavit, Johnson and a witness were driving to pick up Nathan Franklin, a 57-year-old man, and his son. While stopped at a red light, Johnson requested to stop at a store. At that moment, the witness reported hearing a single gunshot and saw Franklin holding a firearm. The witness turned around to find Johnson bleeding from the neck. A struggle ensued between Franklin and the witness over the gun, causing the magazine to fall out. The witness then fled the vehicle, leaving Franklin behind.
After the witness exited the car, Franklin drove away with the vehicle, leaving Johnson inside. Franklin’s stepson later received a call from Franklin, who provided his location. Upon arriving, the stepson found the vehicle but did not locate Franklin. Instead, he discovered Johnson in the backseat with a gunshot wound. The stepson immediately contacted authorities and remained on the scene until officers arrived.
Law enforcement officials launched a search for Franklin and his son but were initially unable to locate them. However, after the witness and Franklin’s stepson identified him, authorities later apprehended Franklin. He was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center and is facing a murder charge. Investigators recovered a spent casing and a gun magazine from the vehicle during their search. The case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding Johnson’s death.
