52-year-old Jahid Hombre Black was fatally shot on March 25, 2025, in Killeen, Texas. The incident occurred at approximately 6:48 p.m. on the 6100 block of Griffith Loop, where Killeen Police officers responded to reports of a shooting victim. Upon arrival, officers discovered Jahid Hombre Black suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite emergency medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at 7:23 p.m.

Three additional victims—a 10-year-old boy, a 12-year-old boy, and an 18-year-old male—were also present in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. Two of them sustained gunshot wounds, while the third was injured in a subsequent vehicle crash. All three were transported to local hospitals for treatment, though their conditions remain unknown.
Authorities took a 16-year-old male suspect into custody at the scene and transported him to the Bell County Juvenile Detention Center. Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims had stopped at the suspect's residence before the shooting. Authorities believe the victims and the suspect were acquainted, and a brief conversation took place before the suspect opened fire on the vehicle. As Jahid Hombre Black attempted to flee, the vehicle crashed two blocks away.
Detectives have classified the shooting as an isolated incident and assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. Following reports of the shooting, Killeen Independent School District officials evacuated a middle school track meet at Shoemaker High School as a precautionary measure. Superintendent Jo Ann Fey later clarified in an email to parents that the shooting did not occur on school property. The evacuation was ordered out of an abundance of caution to prioritize student safety.
The mother of several of the victims later spoke out about the incident, linking it to a social media dispute between her 12-year-old son and the 16-year-old suspect. She explained that her son had been engaged in a group chat on Instagram called the 'troll group,' where students exchanged light-hearted trash talk. The suspect and her son had interacted through this group but did not know each other personally. On the day of the incident, tensions escalated at school, leading to a confrontation that was witnessed by an on-site police officer. The officer offered her son a ride home to ensure his safety. However, later that day, her 12-year-old son was reportedly assaulted on the school bus by the suspect and his brother.
Following the bus incident, her son called his father, Jahid Hombre Black, for help. The tragic events that unfolded afterward resulted in the fatal shooting of the 52-year-old man. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and no additional information has been released regarding potential charges or court proceedings against the suspect.
