In the quiet town of Sunnyside, Washington, a young man's life was cut short in a burst of violence on the evening of Sunday, February 23, 2025. Angel Emmanuel Plascencia-Gutierrez, an 18-year-old Hispanic male, was found by police in the 1300 block of South 13th Street at approximately 7:18 p.m.. He had sustained gunshot wounds and, despite any efforts to help him, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The events leading to Plascencia-Gutierrez's death were starkly captured by a
security camera in the vicinity. The footage showed him engaged in a conversation with two individuals. In a sudden turn of events, Plascencia-Gutierrez is seen drawing a firearm and opening fire on the two people he was with. The duo returned fire, and in the exchange, Plascencia-Gutierrez was struck twice. As of now, the two individuals involved in the fatal shootout have not been identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
Further investigation into the life of Angel Plascencia-Gutierrez revealed his own recent brush with the law. Prior to his death, he was out on bail facing serious charges himself. He had been charged in Yakima County Superior Court with possession of a stolen firearm and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. These charges stemmed from his alleged involvement in a separate murder that occurred in January. While the motive for the February shooting remains under investigation, authorities have not yet determined if it was gang-related.
