Kyle Mitchell, a 27-year-old man from Waco, Texas, was found dead at the Brookside Apartments in Hewitt, Texas, on the night of April 3, 2025. The Hewitt Police Department responded to a call around 11 p.m. from a woman reporting that a man had been shot multiple times. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mitchell inside an apartment with several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:38 p.m.

Witnesses informed police that an argument had broken out between Mitchell and another man outside the apartment complex. During the dispute, the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Keimori Taylor, also from Waco, retrieved a handgun and fired multiple shots at Mitchell. After the shooting, a witness pulled Mitchell into an apartment while Taylor fled the scene in a white vehicle.
Authorities quickly launched a search for Taylor, broadcasting a description of the suspect and his vehicle to local law enforcement agencies. Officers from the Bellmead Police Department located the suspect’s car outside a mobile home in the 1100 block of New Dallas Highway in Bellmead. Hewitt, Bellmead, and Waco police officers surrounded the residence and made contact with Taylor, who was taken into custody without incident.
Taylor was transported to the McLennan County Jail, where he was booked on a murder charge. Jail records indicate that he is also being held on a charge of aggravated kidnapping. No bond has been set for Taylor at this time. The Hewitt Police Department expressed gratitude to the Bellmead and Waco Police Departments for their assistance in swiftly apprehending the suspect. Residents of the apartment complex reported hearing multiple gunshots and expressed concern over the violence in their community.
