On February 3, 2023, 34-year-old Omar Richardson was fatally shot in his downtown San Antonio apartment. Responding to reports of gunfire around 11:25 p.m., police discovered Richardson with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations revealed that Richardson had visited the apartment of local rapper BTB Savage, whose real name was Darrell Gentry, under the pretense of a music collaboration.
During the encounter, Richardson allegedly attempted to rob Gentry at gunpoint. A struggle ensued, during which Gentry's girlfriend retrieved a firearm and shot Richardson in self-defense. Richardson succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Following the incident, Gentry publicly discussed the shooting in an interview and shared images on social media, which some perceived as provocative. On March 30, 2023, Gentry was fatally shot in Houston in what authorities suspect was a targeted attack, possibly in retaliation for Richardson's death.
As of December 2024, no arrests have been reported in connection with Richardson's death. The investigation remains open, with authorities continuing to seek information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
