Ana Maria Davila, a woman from Alamo, Texas, tragically lost her life on April 5, 2025, in a fatal shooting outside Sandra’s Bar, located at 111 North 7th Street. Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 10:55 p.m. after receiving reports of an unresponsive woman. Upon arrival, officers found Davila on the ground with two gunshot wounds to her upper torso and chest.
A witness, Margareth Almonte Mariguez, was seen holding Davila and told police that she had seen her walking out of the bar with her ex-boyfriend before later discovering her outside, unresponsive.
The suspect in the case, 44-year-old Jorge Enrique Saldana-Gonzalez, was identified as Davila’s ex-boyfriend. According to witness statements and video footage obtained by investigators, Saldana-Gonzalez had asked Davila to step outside to talk after seeing her hugging another man inside the bar. He later admitted to authorities that he was upset, believing they were working on repairing their relationship. During their conversation, an argument ensued, and Saldana-Gonzalez claimed that the first shot was accidental, but the second was intentional. After the shooting, he fled the scene, driving a gray Ford F-150 with a bed cover and LED light on the roof.
Investigators tracked Saldana-Gonzalez to a residence in Edinburg, Texas, where they located his vehicle and placed him under arrest. During questioning at the Alamo Police Department, he confessed to the shooting, stating that he had discarded the firearm somewhere along Val Verde Road but was unsure of its exact location. As of April 11, 2025, authorities had not yet recovered the weapon used in the crime. Saldana-Gonzalez remains in custody at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center, facing a murder charge. It is unclear whether he has been granted bond.
