Thelma Metcalf, a 68-year-old white female from Zavalla, Texas, died on April 1, 2008, while undergoing dialysis treatment at the DaVita Healthcare Dialysis Clinic in Lufkin, Texas. She was one of several patients who experienced sudden cardiac arrest during treatment that month. Thelma, born on August 3, 1939, in Houston, Texas, was remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her death initially appeared to be a tragic but unexplained medical event.
