Upon arrival, they encountered Maurell McClendon, an 88-year-old African American man, armed with a shotgun on the front porch. Witnesses stated that officers commanded him to "drop the gun," but instead, he moved toward Christine McClendon, who was already down.
There are conflicting reports about whether Maurell McClendon fired a shot at Christine before officers discharged their weapons, resulting in his death.
Christine McClendon was laid to rest in Davis Memorial Garden, with Colonial Mortuary overseeing the arrangements.
