The incident, which authorities have described as an attempted murder-suicide, unfolded within the family's home, leaving a community in shock and a family grappling with a sudden and violent loss.
On that day, John Koharski, a husband and father, reportedly turned a weapon on his own family.
His adult daughter, a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army who was home for the holidays, was shot in the arm. She was subsequently treated for her injuries at a nearby hospital. Koharski's wife of over three decades was also targeted, with multiple shots fired in her direction, though she managed to escape physical harm.
