In a heartbreaking turn of events, a one-year-old boy named Jeriko Logue was shot and killed in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The tragic incident, which stemmed from a domestic dispute over loud music, also left his mother injured. Jeriko was a happy child, known for his bright eyes and a smile that could light up a room. He had just recently begun to walk and say his first words.
The conflict reportedly began on a Sunday afternoon at the Chelsea Place Apartments when Jeriko's mother, Juanita
Luna Salazar, was playing music for her son. An argument ensued with her 25-year-old boyfriend, Marquavious Hampton, over the volume of the music. The verbal altercation escalated to physical violence, culminating in Hampton producing a firearm. As Jeriko sat in his stroller, Hampton opened fire, striking the young child multiple times. In a desperate attempt to protect her son, his mother intervened and was shot in the hand.
Immediately following the shooting, Hampton fled the scene in a white Dodge Charger. Law enforcement was alerted and, utilizing license plate reader technology, were able to track his vehicle. Williamson County Sheriff's deputies located and pursued Hampton. After a chase, he abandoned his vehicle and fled into a nearby field. Before he could be apprehended by the authorities, Hampton took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The devastating loss of Jeriko has left his family shattered. His grandmother, Lucretia Logue, described the immense grief of losing her first and only grandson, stating that her world had been taken from her. The community has rallied around the family, establishing a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral and medical expenses. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
