Andre Lamar Montera, a 24-year-old man from San Antonio, Texas, was fatally shot on April 23, 2025. The incident occurred outside an apartment complex on Nogalitos Street, where Montera was reportedly picking up a coworker when he was shot. His mother, Toni Brantley, has spoken publicly about her grief, emphasizing that Montera was a father to a two-month-old baby and a five-year-old son who will now grow up without their father.
She has called for accountability and urged the suspect to turn himself in.
Initially, the San Antonio Police Department did not publicly name a suspect, though preliminary reports indicated that the shooter was a 22-year-old man. However, authorities later identified Ronnie Jay Salas, 22, as the suspect in Montera’s killing. Salas was accused of shooting Montera during an argument in the 100 block of Ames Avenue. After the shooting, Montera was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, Salas fled Texas and was eventually located in Kansas. The Kansas Apprehension Task Force, working with the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, received information about Salas’s whereabouts. Law enforcement officials in Barton County and Hoisington, Kansas, acted on a tip and arrested Salas in the 1400 block of North Clay in Hoisington. Authorities confirmed his arrest and stated that he was wanted by the San Antonio Police Department in connection with Montera’s murder.
Montera’s mother has vowed to continue seeking justice for her son, stating that she will not stop looking for answers. She has expressed frustration over the loss of her son, describing his death as senseless and unfair. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not yet released further details regarding Salas’s legal proceedings.
