On December 19, 2024, 39-year-old Terrell Sanders, a Black man, was tragically shot and killed inside his home on the 1800 block of Diamond Street in North Philadelphia. Sanders was found alongside his girlfriend, 35-year-old Jocelynn Marshall, a Black woman, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities pronounced them dead at the scene.
The devastating incident left their families in mourning, with loved ones pleading for answers and justice.
Sanders, a dedicated school bus driver, was a father to a 16-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son. His family described him as a devoted parent who cherished his children deeply. Marshall, who worked for Tastykake, also had two sons, aged 6 and 18. Their deaths sent shockwaves through the community, prompting an outpouring of grief and calls for accountability.
Philadelphia police launched an investigation into the double homicide, initially offering a $40,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Authorities later identified and arrested 32-year-old Bilal Simmons in connection with the murders. Simmons was charged with homicide, violation of the uniform firearms act, and other related offenses. However, police have not disclosed a possible motive for the killings or how Simmons was connected to the victims.
