In the spring of 2025, the Greenville, South Carolina community was shaken by the untimely death of 16-year-old Hans Jaiden Thompson. Known affectionately as Jaiden, he was a young man described as having a smile that could illuminate a room and a laugh that kept it bright. His life was tragically cut short on the evening of Saturday, April 12, 2025, in what authorities have described as a robbery that turned fatal.

The incident unfolded around 8 p.m. in the parking lot of St. Mark United Methodist Church. Reports indicate that Jaiden had arranged to meet with two other teenagers for some type of transaction. During this meeting, the situation escalated, and Jaiden was shot and robbed. He was quickly transported to Prisma Greenville Memorial Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries later that night, with his death officially recorded at 8:57 p.m.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office launched an immediate and swift investigation into the senseless act of violence. Their efforts led to the identification of two juvenile suspects, aged 15 and 16. The first suspect, the 16-year-old, was taken into custody on Monday, April 14. The following day, the 15-year-old suspect was arrested at Travelers Rest High School. The investigation suggested that the victim likely knew the individuals who were subsequently charged with his murder.

Both teenagers are facing a litany of serious charges, including murder, armed robbery, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, criminal conspiracy, and possession of a weapon by a person under the age of 18. While they are currently being charged as juveniles, the court is expected to hold a waiver hearing to determine if they will be tried as adults. In the interim, both suspects have been remanded to the Juvenile Detention Facility in Columbia to await their court proceedings. The tragic event has left three young lives irrevocably altered and a community mourning a profound loss.
