In the Frayser neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, a night at home for Jorge Ismale Reyes Flores turned into a scene of tragedy. The 47-year-old man, a native of Nicaragua, was inside his residence on Madewell Drive on the evening of April 23, 2025, when violence erupted outside. He was enjoying a movie with his wife and their one-year-old grandson, a picture of domestic peace that was soon to be shattered.
Earlier, his son and daughter were attempting to fix a flat tire in the driveway.
Their task was violently interrupted by the sight of several armed individuals heading towards a neighboring house. As the situation escalated, his daughter sought refuge behind a refrigerator in the garage while his son took cover near a car. The armed men began shooting, and in the chaos, bullets indiscriminately pierced the walls of the Reyes Flores home. At least four rounds penetrated the house, one of them striking Jorge in the neck.
His son, upon entering the house, discovered his father gravely wounded. In his final moments, Jorge embraced his wife and son, telling his son that he loved him. Despite the swift and tragic turn of events, he did not survive the injury. The Memphis Police Department responded to the shooting just after 6:30 p.m. and found him deceased at the scene.
Investigators recovered several shell casings of different calibers from the area. In the course of their investigation, they also obtained surveillance video that shows two men and a woman who are believed to be suspects in the shooting. While authorities have publicly identified these individuals as persons of interest, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Jorge Ismale Reyes Flores. The investigation into the senseless act of violence that claimed the life of a beloved father and grandfather remains ongoing.
