Mason Cole Pridemore, a 22-year-old male from Hickory, North Carolina, tragically lost his life on February 20, 2025. Born on September 20, 2002, in Burke County, Mason was the son of Corey Heath Pridemore and Kimberly Ellen Benfield. He was a graduate of East Burke High School and worked in the Shipping Department at Target. Mason was known for his close relationships with his family and his companion, Ashley Brown of Valdese. His passing has left a deep void in the lives of those who knew him.
On the night of February 20, 2025, at approximately 9:57 PM, Hickory Police responded to reports of an unresponsive male inside a vehicle parked at 1405 29th Avenue Drive NE. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mason Cole Pridemore deceased inside the vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Authorities immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Following a swift investigation, Hickory Police arrested two 17-year-old juveniles in connection with the homicide. Both suspects were charged with First Degree Murder and are currently being held in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice without bond. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities continue to seek additional information related to the case.
Mason’s funeral services were arranged by Heritage Funeral Service & Crematory in Valdese. A visitation was held on February 28, 2025, followed by a graveside service on March 1, 2025, at the R and L Leatherman Family Cemetery in Connelly Springs. His passing has deeply affected his family, friends, and the local community, who continue to mourn the loss of the young man whose life was cut short.
