In the early morning hours of Thursday, February 20, 2025, the life of 64-year-old Afdera Danay Hatten was tragically cut short in Philadelphia. Officers from the 12th District were alerted to the sound of gunfire, and shortly after, at approximately 2:47 a.m., a 911 call reported a woman down on the highway near 5200 Greenway Avenue.
Upon their arrival, police found Hatten unresponsive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her back.
She was quickly transported to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center, but her injuries proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead at 3:16 a.m. Hatten, a resident of the 5100 block of Regent Street, was identified as the victim of this violent act.
As of now, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown to investigators, and no arrests have been made in connection with her death. The Philadelphia Police Department is actively investigating the homicide and has offered a $20,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to bring justice for Afdera Hatten.
