In the early morning hours of May 19, 2024, the life of 28-year-old Julio Caesar "Macho" Ariza was tragically cut short in Providence, Rhode Island. A self-employed barber known for his love of sports and the time he cherished with his family and friends, Ariza was fatally shot around 5:15 a.m. on Admiral Street. He sustained a gunshot wound to his back and was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
This young Black / African American man is survived by his son, Josiah, his parents, and his siblings.
Providence Police are actively investigating the circumstances that led to Ariza's death, which marked the third homicide in the city for 2024. Authorities have noted a potential link between the fatal shooting and an illegal, unlicensed after-hours venue known as a "sip joint" operating near the scene of the crime. The investigation into this connection and the broader events of that morning remains active and ongoing.
In the wake of this violence, a memorial was created at the site of the shooting, where grieving family members and friends gathered to honor his memory. As of now, no arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting, and the police have not publicly identified any suspects.
