On March 29, 2025, 31-year-old William Evander Cummings V, an African American male from Cleveland, Ohio, was found unresponsive but breathing in a vehicle that had crashed at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and West 6th Street in Lorain, Ohio. Initially believed to have suffered a head injury from the crash, further examination revealed a gunshot wound on the right side of his head.
Officers discovered bullet holes in his vehicle, linking the incident to a shooting that had occurred earlier in the parking lot of Bootlegger’s Den, a bar located at 538 Broadway Avenue.
Cummings was transported to Mercy Hospital in Lorain, where he succumbed to his injuries days later. The Lorain Police Department is treating the case as a homicide and has urged anyone with information to contact their Criminal Investigations Bureau.
As of now, there have been no arrests or publicly identified suspects in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
