Justin Garrett Huser was a 35-year-old White / Caucasian man, a partner of 12 years, and the father of two sons. In the wake of his death, a GoFundMe was established to support his family, with his sister remembering him as the partner of the "toughest woman I know" and a loving father.
On the night of March 8, 2025, a dispute at a residence in Eugene, Oregon, turned fatal. Eugene Police responded to reports of gunfire around 11:30 p.m. at a home in the 3100 block of West 18th Avenue.
When they arrived, officers found Justin Huser deceased at the scene. He had been shot and killed.
The investigation quickly focused on Kenneth John Alvord, then 36, who knew Huser and lived at the home where the shooting occurred. According to a search warrant affidavit, the two men were involved in an altercation during which Huser allegedly hit Alvord. When Huser refused to leave the residence, Alvord shot him and then called 911 to report the incident.
Alvord was arrested at the scene and initially lodged at the Lane County Jail on a charge of unlawful use of a weapon. He was later released on a conditional basis. The case progressed, and in October 2025, a grand jury returned a secret indictment against Alvord, charging him with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and unlawful use of a weapon. He was booked into the Lane County Jail and pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Kenneth John Alvord was brought to trial in July 2026. On July 10, 2026, a Lane County judge declared a mistrial in the case, which was the last known development.
