On April 19, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., 36-year-old Deval Watkins, an African American man from Buffalo, New York, was fatally shot in a parking lot located on the 400 block of William Street near Jefferson Avenue. According to the Erie County District Attorney's Office, the suspect, 31-year-old Mikel L. Lowe, also of Buffalo, allegedly used an illegal handgun to intentionally shoot Watkins. Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
