In the late hours of January 30, 2025, a burst of gunfire shattered the night on South Broadway in Greenville, Mississippi, leading to the tragic death of 36-year-old Darrius Mitchell. Mitchell was inside a vehicle with two other men in the 200 block near Central Street when the shooting occurred around 10 p.m. All three occupants of the vehicle sustained gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders, including Pafford Ambulance Services, rushed to the scene and transported the injured men to
Delta Health Systems. Despite medical efforts, Darrius Mitchell succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The other two victims were admitted for further treatment. The Greenville Police Department launched an investigation into the deadly shooting, which was one of two to occur on South Broadway within hours of each other.
The investigation led to the identification of two teenage suspects. The first, 17-year-old Keon Clark, was taken into custody on February 7. His alleged accomplice, 17-year-old Allen Henry, also from Greenville, was apprehended in early March. Henry's arrest came after he himself was treated for a gunshot wound at the same hospital where Mitchell had died. The circumstances surrounding Henry's injuries were not publicly disclosed by the authorities.
Following their arrests, both Allen Henry and Keon Clark were charged with murder and attempted murder for their roles in the incident that claimed Darrius Mitchell's life and injured two others. They were subsequently booked into the Washington County Jail. While arrests have been made, the motive behind the fatal shooting has not been made clear as the investigation continues.
