On a late afternoon in Paterson, New Jersey, the life of Abel Angeles-Vargas, a 28-year-old man originally from the Dominican Republic, was brought to a violent end. The incident unfolded around 5:20 p.m. on March 15, 2025, near the intersection of Market Street and Pennington Street. At that time, a Hyundai Elantra approached, and three individuals emerged from the vehicle, opening fire with handguns. Abel Angeles-Vargas was struck multiple times in the sudden barrage of bullets. First responders rushed him to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The subsequent investigation into the brazen daylight shooting led authorities to identify one of the alleged assailants.
Nine days after the incident, on March 24, 2025, police arrested 18-year-old Davon White of Paterson. He has since been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and two weapons-related offenses in connection with the death of Angeles-Vargas. While White has been identified as one of the three shooters who exited the vehicle, the investigation into the homicide remains active and ongoing as law enforcement continues to seek more information about the other individuals involved in the fatal ambush.
