In the early morning hours of September 20, 2019, tragedy struck in Paterson, New Jersey, forever altering the lives of a local family. Brian Taveras, a 20-year-old male, was discovered on Sandy Court with a fatal gunshot wound. The Paterson Police Department received reports of shots fired in the area at approximately 12:54 a.m. and rushed to the scene.
Upon their arrival, they found Taveras lying on the ground, gravely injured.
Emergency responders acted quickly, transporting him to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in an effort to save his life. Despite their efforts, the young man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at around 1:15 a.m. His death marked the 10th homicide in the city of Paterson for that year.
