David Eduardo Barron, 24, a white male, arrived at the 7-Eleven at 4510 Vegas Valley Drive in Las Vegas late on September 10, 2017, where a minor slight spiraled into violence. Police records cited in local reporting say the evening's tension began when Barron spat on the store's walkway and an argument with an employee followed. The store owner, Harjit Dhillon, became involved, and a physical struggle broke out before Barron and his companions left.
Hours were measured in minutes, not long enough for tempers to cool.
Barron returned with brothers Eric and Richard Ball, the trio now armed—police later listed knives, a machete, and brass knuckles among the weapons brought back into the store. The Ball brothers vaulted the counter and attacked a clerk as the owner tried to call police. Amid the melee, the owner fired a round into the air; the fight continued, and as Barron grappled with him, the owner—stating he feared for his life and his employee's—fired several times. Barron collapsed just outside the entrance and was transported to Sunrise Hospital, where he died of multiple gunshot wounds later identified by the Clark County coroner.
In the aftermath, detectives identified Barron as the decedent and documented the sequence through witness statements and arrest reports. Eric and Richard Ball were arrested and faced charges including attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and burglary. The store owner was detained for questioning but, at that time, was not charged; the case was referred to the district attorney for review to determine whether the shooting was justified.
