In the early morning hours of April 19, 2025, violence shattered the quiet of a street in Trenton, New Jersey, leaving one man dead and a community searching for answers. Marquis Lee Skillman, a 38-year-old male, was found suffering from gunshot wounds on the 300 block of East State Street. The incident unfolded around 4 a.m., a time when the city was mostly asleep, but the sounds of gunfire prompted calls to the Trenton Police Department.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim
scene. Skillman and a 39-year-old woman were both injured. Emergency services transported both victims to a local hospital for treatment. While the female victim was listed in stable condition, Skillman tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Born in Trenton on April 23, 1986, he was just a few days shy of his 39th birthday.
The investigation into the deadly double shooting moved swiftly. Within two weeks, authorities had identified a suspect. On a Monday in late April, Naquan Green, 37, was apprehended in the neighboring town of Ewing. His arrest brought a significant development to the case, offering a potential path toward justice for Skillman's death.
Following the arrest, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office formally charged Green with first-degree murder, among other offenses, in connection with the shooting. In a decisive move to keep the suspect in custody, the prosecutor's office filed a motion to detain Green pending his trial, signaling their intent to pursue the case vigorously through the legal system.
