In the early morning hours of Saturday, February 22, 2025, a dispute in Greenville, Mississippi, turned fatal, claiming the life of 24-year-old Zhaire Green. The incident unfolded around 1 a.m. in the 2400 block of East Alexander Street, where Green was found by responding officers lying in the roadway. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Known affectionately as 'Zee' or 'Ziggy' to friends and family, Zhaire was born on April 11, 2000, and was admired for his athleticism in multiple sports and his passion for horses.
Witnesses at the scene identified 29-year-old Joseph Norris, Jr. as the individual who had been in an argument with Green just before the shooting. Following the altercation, Norris allegedly shot Green, leaving him in the street. The Greenville Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the homicide.
After leaving the scene on East Alexander Street, the tragic events of the morning continued. Norris reportedly went to his father's residence on Union Street, where another conflict occurred, resulting in Norris allegedly shooting his own father.
Law enforcement located Norris at his father's home. As officers arrived to apprehend him, Norris attempted to flee out the back door but was successfully taken into custody. The Greenville Police Department subsequently charged Joseph Norris, Jr. with first-degree murder for the death of Zhaire Green and aggravated assault in connection with the shooting of his father.
