In the early morning hours of Sunday, February 9, 2025, the life of 21-year-old Keiara Ledet was tragically cut short in Lafayette, Louisiana. A resident of Lafayette, Ms. Ledet was a talented and loving young woman with a passion for doing hair, decorating, and fashion.

The incident that led to her death unfolded on Pinhook Road, near its intersection with Carmel Drive. Following what authorities have described as a domestic dispute, Ms. Ledet sustained a fatal gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

In the wake of the shooting, the Lafayette Police Department launched an investigation that quickly led to the identification and arrest of a suspect. Wikeem Smith, 20, identified as Ms. Ledet's boyfriend, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder, resisting an officer, and possession of marijuana. Authorities also noted that Smith had an outstanding warrant from Fort Smith, Arkansas.

A second individual, 19-year-old Kaylen Jones of St. Martinville, was also arrested in connection with the case. Jones faces charges of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder and obstruction of justice related to evidence tampering. She turned herself in to the authorities.
