In what was described as a senseless act of violence, Eddie Shed, a 39-year-old man, was shot and killed on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi. The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. at the Goldin Sports Complex during a church-sponsored Easter egg hunt hosted by Empowerment Ministries Christian Center, where Shed served as a deacon and head of security.
The tragic event unfolded from what authorities have identified as a child custody dispute.
Tyran Deion Gable, 24, was reportedly involved in a dispute with the mother of his child. As the situation escalated, Shed attempted to intervene and de-escalate the conflict. It was during this heroic act that Gable allegedly opened fire, striking Shed and another individual. Shed sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the community mourned the loss of a man described as a pillar of strength, a beacon of light and hope, and a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect others. Friends and fellow church members remembered his unwavering faith, kindness, and dedication to serving his community.
Law enforcement quickly identified Tyran Deion Gable as the suspect. Gable, who also sustained injuries during the incident, was taken into custody. He has since been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault in connection with the shooting.
