On the evening of February 18, 2025, a sense of unease settled over a residential neighborhood in the unincorporated section of Laurel, Maryland. At approximately 9:15 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the night, prompting calls to the Prince George's County Police Department. When officers arrived at the 11600 block of South Laurel Drive, they discovered the body of 17-year-old Jeferson Giron Cabrera of College Park.
He was found outside, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the male teenager was quickly initiated by the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit. While the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, detectives have stated their belief that the attack was not a random act.
