In Gretna, Louisiana, on a Saturday evening, a dispute tragically escalated, claiming the life of 36-year-old Joshua D'Angelo Carter. The male victim, a resident of Gretna and native of Avondale, was found lying on a sidewalk in the 2100 block of Stafford Street with a gunshot wound to his chest. The incident, which occurred on March 1, 2025, prompted a swift response from the Gretna Police Department.
Officers were initially called to the scene for a disturbance.
While they were present, a second 911 call reported a shooting at the same location, indicating the suspect was still there. Emergency medical services arrived and began treating Carter before transporting him to University Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injury. Carter was a husband and a father of three, employed as a forklift driver and a member of the STR8 Wildin Bike Club.
Still at the scene and in possession of a firearm, 58-year-old Scott Fredericks was arrested by the officers. He was taken into custody without incident and subsequently booked on one count of second-degree murder. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting is ongoing.
