On the evening of March 4, 2025, Baltimore police were called to a residence in the 1000 block of McAleer Court, where they discovered a grim scene. Inside, 41-year-old Shakeira LaShae Cooper, a Black female, was found deceased from a gunshot wound. Alongside her was a 38-year-old man who had also been fatally shot. The discovery was made at approximately 8:19 p.m.
by Central District officers who were responding to a report of a shooting.
Investigators at the scene pronounced both individuals dead. The case is currently being investigated as a possible murder-suicide, though authorities have not released definitive details about the sequence of events that led to the two deaths. As the investigation remains active, no arrests have been made, and officials have not named any suspects. Law enforcement has urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
Shakeira, known affectionately as 'Keira' to her family and 'Pretty Head' to her friends, was a graduate of Patterson High School. She had built a career as a Certified Nail Technician and Medical Assistant and had also worked for the Transportation Authority, serving individuals with special needs. Her life was remembered by her loving family, including her parents, her daughter, and numerous siblings, aunts, and uncles. Her death has added to the city's growing number of homicides, leaving a void in the community and a family mourning a cherished loved one.
