In the early hours of April 28, 2025, the life of Neri Moreno Gratini, a 36-year-old Black/African American woman from Suitland, Maryland, was tragically cut short. Police responded to a call for a shooting at a residence on the 3900 block of Bexley Place at approximately 1:55 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Gratini inside the home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation into the death, which was quickly classified as a domestic-related homicide, pointed to Gratini's boyfriend as the primary suspect. Armed with a description of the man and his vehicle, law enforcement began a search. Their efforts led them to the suspect's SUV roughly 30 minutes later, at around 2:25 a.m., on the northbound side of Interstate 495 near Oxon Hill Road.
When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect refused to comply and exit his vehicle. As officers from both the Prince George's County and Forest Heights police departments cautiously approached the SUV, they observed the suspect in the driver's seat with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A firearm was recovered from inside the vehicle. The man, who has not been publicly named, was transported to a nearby hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. The investigation into Gratini's death was reported as ongoing, pending further developments.
