In the summer of 2014, a domestic dispute in Suitland, Maryland, escalated to a fatal conclusion, ending the life of 43-year-old Tamu Bynum. On the evening of August 10th, Prince George's County Police responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Sycamore Lane. Inside, they discovered Bynum suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation quickly pointed to a domestic-related incident.
Detectives determined that Bynum had been in a relationship with 43-year-old Devin James Wooten of Southeast Washington, D.C. An argument between the couple on that Sunday escalated to the point where Wooten allegedly shot and killed Bynum.
The day after the shooting, on August 11, 2014, Devin James Wooten turned himself in to detectives at the police headquarters in Palmer Park. He was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with Tamu Bynum's death. The case then proceeded through the legal system to hold him accountable for the violent end to a domestic relationship.
