On the final night of 2024, a violent incident unfolded in the Chickasaw neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, claiming the life of a young man just moments before the new year began. Michael Lamont Bass II, a 21-year-old Black male, was outside the "No Haterz Motorcycle Club" located at 1120 South 36th Street when gunfire erupted. The shooting occurred just before midnight on December 31, casting a shadow over the New Year's Eve celebrations in the area.

Metro Police Department were dispatched to the scene following reports of the shooting. While en route, they received updates that the victim had already been removed from the location. Bystanders at the scene had placed Bass into a private vehicle and transported him directly to the UofL Health Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Upon arrival at the medical facility, he was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Despite being rushed into emergency surgery, Bass succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, marking one of the final homicides of the year for the city. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office subsequently identified him and confirmed the cause of death. As of the latest reports following the incident, LMPD’s Homicide Unit had taken over the investigation and was actively canvassing for information. Detectives have publicly appealed for witnesses to come forward, urging anyone with knowledge of the events leading up to the shooting to contact the department’s anonymous tip line. At this time, no specific suspects have been named, and no arrests have been reported in connection with his death.
