In the early evening of January 24, 2025, a fatal encounter unfolded at the intersection of Bardstown Road and Fegenbush Lane in Louisville's Buechel neighborhood. Taylor Mudd, a 25-year-old male, was a passenger in a vehicle when a road rage incident escalated into deadly violence. He was rushed to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The events leading to the shooting began when the female driver of the vehicle Mudd was in had to swerve to
avoid a Jeep Cherokee that had run a stop sign. The driver of the Jeep, later identified as 31-year-old Eric Slayton, then began to tailgate their car. At a red light, Slayton pulled up alongside them, pointed a handgun, and fired several rounds into their vehicle. In addition to the fatal injuries sustained by Mudd, the driver was also struck by a projectile.
Following the shooting, Slayton fled the scene in the Jeep Cherokee, which was later discovered to have been stolen. An investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit led them to identify Slayton as a suspect. Cellphone data placed him at the scene of the crime at the time of the shooting.
In April 2025, Eric Slayton was arrested and charged in connection with the death of Taylor Mudd. The charges against him include murder, assault, receiving stolen property, and theft of a motor vehicle registration plate. At the time of his arrest, Slayton was found to be in possession of a stolen handgun. The investigation was still ongoing, and authorities continued to seek information from the public regarding the incident.
