On the evening of May 1, 2025, tragedy struck in the Morningside neighborhood of Shreveport, Louisiana, when 19-year-old Jarius D. Pennywell, a young Black male, was fatally shot at a block party. The incident occurred just after 9:40 p.m. in the 500 block of Fuller Street, where Pennywell was among the attendees. Following the shooting, emergency responders transported him to Ochsner LSU Health, where he was pronounced dead at 10:34 p.m. His death marked the 11th homicide in Shreveport in 2025.
