Her passing was the result of a murder-suicide incident that took place in her home on Hosking Avenue. Authorities identified the second deceased individual as 54-year-old Carlos Rafael Cardenas. According to reports, Gutierrez suffered multiple gunshot wounds, while Cardenas died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Bakersfield Police Department responded to the scene after receiving an ambulance request at approximately 5:20 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the two bodies inside the residence.
