On January 6, 2025, officers responded to a shooting incident on Holderness Street in Atlanta, Georgia. Upon arrival, they discovered 19-year-old Ashton Jackson suffering from a gunshot wound. Medical responders pronounced Jackson dead at the scene. Authorities later identified Markius Gillespie as a suspect in the case. After months of investigation, Gillespie surrendered himself to the Fulton County jail on May 12, 2025. He was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and theft by taking.
